Severe Weather Warnings – WDEF

The National Weather Service in Morristown has the

* Flash flood warning for…
Central Hamilton County in eastern Tennessee…

* Until 8:00pm EDT.

* At 10:56 p.m. EDT, local police and 911 dispatch reported
flash flooding in the warned area. Between 2.5 and 6 inches
Tonight there has been rain. The effects of flooding will continue, but
no additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding is already occurring
occur. Discharge causes persistent rising water in some areas
creeks. Mountain Creek at the base of Signal Mountain has risen to
6.9 feet at 10:00 PM EDT, at 6.5 feet Cross Street is under water and
impassable.

DANGER…Flooding due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Law enforcement and 911 dispatch reported it.

IMPACT…Flooding of small creeks and rivers, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as
other areas with poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations where flash flooding may occur include:
Chattanooga, Soddy-Daisy, Signal Mountain, Walden, Lakesite,
Fairmount, Red Bank, falling water, North Chickamauga Creek Gorge,
Middle Valley, Mowbray Mountain, Lone Oak and Shady Grove.

PRECAUTIONS/PREPARED ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when you encounter flooded roads. Most floods
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially careful at night, as it is more difficult to spot the
dangers of flooding.
