CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Senator Joe Manchin has stated that he is considering a run for the Democratic nomination for president.

According to CBS Chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa, the West Virginia senator, who is currently registered as an Independent, may re-register with the Democratic Party to run for the presidential nomination.

Costa said in a post on X that Manchin wants to offer a Democratic alternative to Vice President Kamala Harris, “per several sources familiar with the discussions.”

Previously, Senator Manchin had called for President Biden to step down from the 2024 race hours before it was officially announced Sunday, calling for him to pass the torch.
