ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of an inmate at the Ector County Jail early Sunday morning.

According to Sheriff Mike Griffis, Joe Daniel Miranda was arrested by Odessa police on July 20 on suspicion of trespassing and public intoxication. Miranda was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center and was later found unresponsive in a cell.

Griffis said jail staff began CPR and continued life-saving measures until an ambulance arrived. Miranda was then taken to Medical Center Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by emergency room staff.

Miranda’s body was submitted for autopsy and the Texas Rangers took over the investigation, as is customary under the circumstances.
