Vice President Josh Shapiro could be key for battleground fight

With President Joe Biden officially dropping out of the 2024 race and throwing support behind Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the ticket, Josh Shapiro is fast becoming a household name.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has been eyed as a potential vice-presidential pick to balance the Democratic ticket.

And with Pennsylvania a key battleground state, Shapiro could be a sharp weapon for the party.

What are battleground states?

Battleground states, also known as swing states, are states where both Democratic and Republican candidates have strong support and can win in an election.

These states often decide the outcome of presidential elections. Pennsylvania is one such state, with its 20 electoral votes being highly sought after by both parties.

Pennsylvania has been a critical state in recent elections. In 2016, Donald Trump won Pennsylvania by a narrow margin, but in 2020, Joe Biden flipped the state back to blue.

Its diverse electorate, which includes urban, suburban, and rural voters, makes it a microcosm of the national political landscape. Winning Pennsylvania could significantly bolster a candidate’s path to victory.

Josh Shapiro, the 51-year-old governor of Pennsylvania, is known for his practical approach to politics and his ability to work across party lines. That could play in his favor as party influencers weigh their options.
