PLANTATION, Fla. – Republican leaders released statements Sunday afternoon responding to President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race against former President Donald Trump and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination.

CNN’s June 27 presidential debate was a defining moment for Biden, with nearly three dozen Democrats in Congress calling for him to withdraw from the race. Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia was the latest to join the fray on Sunday.

Rep. Carlos Gimenez, the former mayor of Miami-Dade County, spoke to a group of reporters at Miami International Airport before boarding his flight to Washington, D.C.

“We have seen the decline. We have seen it for over a year. It just keeps getting worse and worse, and it is unfortunate that our opponents see the same thing: we cannot have a president who is not at the height of his or her powers,” Gimenez said.

Senator JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee: ““For the past four years, she has co-signed Biden’s open border and green scam policies that have driven up the cost of housing and groceries,” Vance wrote on X. “She is responsible for all of these failures, and she has lied about Biden’s mental capacity for nearly four years — and saddled the nation with a president who is not up to the job.”

Senator Rick Scott: “It has been painfully clear that Biden is unfit for office since 2021. Democrats laughed when I said Biden should be removed from office after his deadly Afghanistan withdrawal disaster. They are not laughing now. In those four years, we have seen immense damage done to our country. Our border is wide open, inflation is crushing American families, and countless Americans have lost their lives at home and abroad because of the policy decisions of Joe Biden and his ‘border czar’ Kamala Harris.”

Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power: “The Democratic leadership has failed Americans by supporting someone unfit for the job. Every leader in the Democratic Party, especially Vice President Harris, is complicit in this sham presidency, and voters will hold them accountable in November. Biden leaves our country with long-term inflation and high interest rates, record food and gas prices, open borders, child indoctrination, and power to our country’s enemies. And to top it all off, Kamala Harris has failed at the only job she was given: border czar.”
