Michelle Obama hailed as ‘the only person who can beat Trump’ now Biden has quit

Michelle Obama has been hailed as the “only person who can beat Donald Trump ” following Joe Biden’s shocking withdrawal from his re-election campaign. Biden, 81, has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democrat presidential candidate in the race against Trump.

However, some figures have shown their support for Obama, who was the First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017. Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Steven Bartlett, 31, previously supported Obama, a Princeton University and Harvard Law School graduate and former associate dean of student services at the University of Chicago.

The celebrity’s sentiment has been echoed by others on X (formerly Twitter) tonight, following Biden’s letter on social media. It read: “While it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling the duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Minutes after the letter was posted by the 81-year-old politician, numerous tweets praised Obama, 60, and urged her to enter the race. Senator Kevin Cramer of North Dakota said this week: “I don’t think I’d be revealing any sort of polling secrets if I said Michelle Obama would probably be the one person that could step in and keep the party united and probably provide a little bit of a moving start because of her obvious notoriety,” reports the Mirror.

One woman took to Twitter this evening, stating emphatically: “If they choose anyone other than Kamala Harris or Michelle Obama, I will NOT be voting.” Another voiced her support for Michelle Obama: “Michelle Obama… your country needs you… PLEASE throw your hat in the presidential race… you can beat him and think your husband was the first black president and you can be the first black and woman… power couple extraordinaire.”

A different user expressed their preference: “Michelle Obama is the only one who’ll defeat Trump.” Similarly, another comment on social media read: “In my opinion, Michelle Obama is the only real contender that could beat Trump – she would be able to energize voters, the party and has name recognition.”

However, father-of-four Biden shared his stance online: “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats – it’s time to come together and beat Trump.”

Amidst his self-isolation at his Delaware beach house following a COVID-19 diagnosis last week, Biden has been consulting with a tight-knit group of family and trusted advisers about his political path forward. He announced his intention to address the nation later in the week to elaborate on his decision.

The news of Biden’s endorsement was a surprise to many senior campaign and White House staff, who were informed just moments before the announcement went public, as per sources in the know. The past few days have seen Biden contemplating his political journey, with the final choice being kept under wraps until now.

Michelle Obama has not yet responded publicly to these comments, but Barack Obama, noted at the end of his statement following the news Biden is quitting: “For now, Michelle and I just want to express our love and gratitude to Joe and Jill for leading us so ably and courageously during these perilous times — and for their commitment to the ideals of freedom and equality that this country was founded on.”
