Trump becomes ‘oldest presidential candidate’ in US history as Joe Biden steps down

Former President Donald Trump, 78, became the oldest presidential candidate in U.S. history after President Joe Biden decided to step down.

After Biden announced he was dropping out of the race, CNN spoke with former lawmaker and political commentator Bakari Sellers about the decision.

The expert pointed out that Vice President Kamala Harris would not focus on choosing a running mate until after she spoke with Democratic delegates.

“I think a lot of people come on TV and don’t really know the process, but you have to go out there and get these representatives,” he explained. “My phone is blowing up with people being pissed off.”

“And the reason they’re pissed is because they feel like people from the top pushed Joe Biden out the door,” Sellers continued. “And the text I just got from a friend was something like, if they push Joe Biden out the door, what are they going to do with Kamala Harris?”

However, Sellers said he didn’t think it would be difficult for Harris to rally Democratic delegates behind her.

“She’s running against the oldest candidate for president of the United States in American history,” he noted. “And so when you have this kind of transformative election, when you have this kind of generational divide, the question is do you want to go backwards with Donald Trump or do you want to go forwards with Kamala Harris.”

“I mean, the man is almost 80 years old,” he added. “And so the question is, can he serve another four years? I’m not sure he can.”

GOP pollster Sarah Longwell said succinctly: “Donald Trump is too old to be president.”
