Despite calls from many in the legislature to resign, Biden stuck to his decision to retain his political position. On Sunday, he shocked the nation when he announced he would no longer run for president in 2024.

After announcing he would step down, President Biden gave his full support to Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.

Lawmakers from West Virginia and Ohio took to social media to respond to Biden’s announcement.

Four hours before President Biden made his monumental announcement, Ohio Senator and Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance took on X, saying, “If Joe Biden ends his reelection campaign, how can he justify remaining president? Not running for reelection would be a clear admission that President Trump was right all along that Biden was not mentally fit to serve as commander in chief. There is no middle ground.”

West Virginia Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Patrick Morrisey went to X and said, “The Democrat party system is rigged. Imagine what the media would say if Republicans completely ignored the will of the people and installed their candidate as the nominee. The #TrumpVance2024 ticket is the only ticket that will fight to preserve our Constitution, our freedoms, our way of life, and our democratic ideals.”

7News will continue to update the reactions as they come in.
