(WHTM) — Democrats and Republicans in Pennsylvania have issued numerous statements in response to President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Pennsylvania Rep. Dwight Evans (D-Philadelphia) said, “I am deeply grateful to President Joe Biden for his service to our country. After leading landmark legislation like the Violence Against Women Act as a Senator and serving as Vice President for eight years, he stepped up again in 2020 to end Donald Trump’s disastrous tenure and clean up the mess and chaos Trump left behind. From the American Rescue Plan that helped us recover from Covid and Trump’s recession, to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the historic Clean Energy and Healthcare Act, also known as the Inflation Reduction Act, President Biden and Vice President @VP Harris have delivered for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the nation that I am proud to vote for in Congress.”

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick said: “Joe Biden is unfit to serve as commander in chief. Bob Casey is very close to Biden — he knows this — but in typical Casey fashion, he has been feeble in his refusal to admit to the people of Pennsylvania that Biden is simply not up to the job. Keeping his head down when the going gets tough is who Bob Casey is. As a veteran and an American, I believe our troops deserve a commander in chief who is fully capable of doing the job — and Casey’s refusal to stand up for them during President Biden’s apparent decline is despicable. No matter who the Democratic presidential nominee ends up being, career politician and habitual liar Bob Casey cannot walk away from the disastrous liberal agenda he has championed for the past three and a half years and throughout his 30 years of collecting a taxpayer-funded salary. Casey has voted 98 percent of the time for the failed liberal agenda and old, tired ideas from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, fueling a border crisis that left more than 4,000 Pennsylvanians dead from fentanyl last year, violent crime terrorizing our communities, record high rent, gas and grocery prices, and regulations crushing the state’s energy sector. The people of Pennsylvania deserve a strong leader who will go the extra mile to get things done for them, and I’m proud of our growing movement. On November 5, Pennsylvania will retire empty-handed Bob Casey.”

U.S. House Representative Brendan Boyle (D-PA, 2nd District) said, “President Joe Biden is a patriot. He selflessly put aside his personal ambition to do what he believes is best for our country. Today, and every day, in both dark and bright days, I am proud to be one of Joe Biden’s biggest supporters.”

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said, “Joe Biden is not only a great president and a great legislative leader, but he is also a truly great human being. His decision was not easy, of course, but he once again put his country, his party, and our future first. Joe, today shows that you are a true patriot and a great American.”

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, a Democrat, said on X: “Joe Biden has earned his place among the best and most influential presidents in American history. I am so proud to serve under his leadership and grateful for his unwavering focus on what’s best for our country.”
