The timing of the convention, which took place just two days after the party’s nominee, former President Donald Trump, survived an assassination attempt, may have influenced the election outcome, but that is difficult to determine.

The online poll went live at 6 a.m. Sunday, just hours after Trump was injured. At the time, details of the shooting were not yet known.

Another factor may have been that Trump chose Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate for vice president on the first day of the convention.

Respondents’ curiosity about what the former president would say in his speech to Congress after being hit by an assassin’s bullet could also play a role in the vote.

However, the majority of respondents indicated that they did not plan to watch.

Of the two “no” answer options in the poll, 33.6% agreed with the answer: “No. Watching political conventions in general is a waste of time. It’s all scripted theater.”

Another 21.1 percent responded, “No. Not my party, not my candidate. I don’t plan on watching the convention.”

However, some respondents wanted to hear what the former president had to say. A total of 24.5% of respondents agreed with, “Yes. I want to hear from former President Trump and see who his running mate will be.”

Another segment wanted to know what position the party would take on current issues. A total of 16.4 percent said, “Yes. It will be interesting to see how the GOP platform is presented. That’s a big factor.”

The answer “unsure” attracted 4.4% of voters. That answer was: “Unsure. It’s hard to say now. It might be worth tuning in this week.”
