Utah State Football DB Andre Seldon Jr. Dies at 22 from Drowning

Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. died Saturday at age 22 after a cliff jumping accident.

“Our football program is devastated to lose one of our own,” interim head coach Nate Dreiling said in the school’s announcement. “I had a prior relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, and I can tell you what an incredible person and teammate he was. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.”

The school said a search was launched after Seldon failed to surface after diving into Porcupine Reservoir. Divers with the Utah Department of Public Safety found his body at 9:05 p.m. MT Saturday night.

A spokesman for the Cache County Sheriff’s Office called Seldon’s death a “tragic accident” based on preliminary investigation.

Seldon was the No. 11 cornerback in the 247Sports composite rankings for the 2020 recruiting class. He enrolled at Michigan and transferred after two seasons with the Wolverines, making two total appearances.

The Belleville, Michigan native had more success at New Mexico State, throwing two interceptions, including a pick-six, and 96 total tackles in 28 games.

Seldon joined Dreiling for the 2024 campaign. Dreiling was the defensive coordinator at NMSU before accepting the same job at Utah State.
