On July 30, law enforcement, child welfare officials and victim advocates will gather for an educational panel titled “Raising Awareness About Sex Trafficking in Our Community.”

The event is open to the public and will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Carson City School District Boardroom, 1402 W. King St.

Carson City Juvenile Services will partner with the Washoe County Regional Human Trafficking and Exploitation Unit (HEAT) team, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Sexual Assault Response Advocates (SARA) with Advocates to End Domestic Violence and Xquisite.

“This event is important to educate and raise awareness in the community about a difficult topic that some or most people don’t even know is happening in our area,” said Michelle Entz, Outreach Specialist with Carson City Youth Services.

Entz said community members should attend to hear from a panel of experts in the field, “who see these ills unfolding in our cities, and what they are doing to stop it.”

“These conversations between experts and the community bring us one step closer to ending human trafficking and sex trafficking altogether,” Entz said.
