New research reveals the best US states for sober travel – Utah tops the list

A new study has revealed the best US states for sober travel – Utah tops the list

The study, by Lantana Recovery, a recovery health organization, ranks U.S. states on several metrics, including sober activities, alcohol consumption rates, number of bars, alcohol laws, Alcoholics Anonymous locations, public safety and overall health.

Key findings:

  • Utah ranks first with a score of 82.2 out of 100 (sober-friendly). This ranking is due to Utah’s low alcohol consumption of 1.30 gallons per capita, strict alcohol laws, strong public safety measures and the low number of bars per capita per square mile.

  • Vermont ranks second with a score of 72.2. Vermont is distinguished by its large number of sober activities (161.34 per 100,000 residents), its scenic landscapes, and its strict public safety and health measures, making it an ideal city for sober travel.

  • Idaho, Hawaii and New Hampshire complete the top five. Idaho comes in third for its abundance of outdoor activities and low alcohol consumption. Hawaii offers breathtaking natural beauty and the highest availability of sober activities. New Hampshire has picturesque landscapes, charming small towns, and strong public safety measures.

  • Iceland tops the international rankings with a score of 84.1. Iceland is a top destination for down-to-earth travelers, known for its many down-to-earth activities, breathtaking scenery, hot springs, and the Northern Lights.
