Mr. Darroll Fred Freeman

Mr. Darroll Fred Freeman of Cedartown, Georgia passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the age of 94. Mr. Freeman was born on November 16, 1929 in Sugar Hill, Georgia, the son of Hinton and Avie Freeman.

Mr. Freeman grew up in Sugar Hill, Georgia and was a member of Sugar Hill’s championship basketball team. He married Virginia Reed on October 1, 1948. They were married for 60 years.

Mr. Freeman began his career in the paper industry with Graham Paper Company and then Howard Paper Company in Atlanta before moving to Cedartown. In 1965, he joined Cedartown Paper Board Company, where he held several positions before becoming owner. During his 50-year tenure, he expanded the company to Bay Minette, Alabama, Jacksonville, Florida and Kountze, Texas.

After retirement he enjoyed gardening his prize-winning dahlias, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family.

Mr. Freeman was an active member of First Baptist Church, Cedartown, for nearly 60 years. He served on the board of directors of Commercial National Bank. He also served on the board of directors of Polk Medical Center for over 40 years and was an active member of Cedartown Rod and Gun Club for 45 years. Mr. Freeman was a past president and member of the board of directors of Cherokee Golf and Country Club.

Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Virginia Reed Freeman; his parents, Hinton and Avie Freeman; brothers, Wendell (Sally) Freeman, Claude (Mary Ann) Freeman; brothers-in-law Dan Reed, James Reed; sister-in-law Reba Reed.

He is survived by his children, Reed (Debbie) Freeman, Dale Freeman (Rick Hall); grandchildren: Molly Freeman Jordan (Jason), John Reed Freeman (Ali); great-grandchildren: Caroline Jordan, Neelley Jordan, Stuart Jordan, Wren Freeman; brothers-in-law: Garrett Reed, Stanley (Sandra) Reed; sisters-in-law: Linda Reed, Sheila Reed, numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend: Barbara Bowen.

A celebration of life for Mr. Freeman will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Cedartown at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Smith and Miller Funeral Home.
