Charles (Chuck) I. Lemon, age 93 of Uvalde, Texas, passed away on July 15, 2024 in Uvalde.

He was born on November 15, 1930, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Lloyd and Carrie Lemon.

He married Jacqueline Smith in January 1949 in Denver, Colorado. They were married for 50 years, until her death in December 1999.

On July 16, 2001, he married Cleo Chaney Lemon in Uvalde, Texas.

He attended schools in Englewood and Denver, Colorado.

He joined Bell Telephone Company in 1951 and retired from SBC in Uvalde, Texas in 1995 after 44 years of service.

He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and a 27-year member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was active in and a former commander of the American Legion of Uvalde, Post 26.

He was very active in several Masonic organizations including: Masonic Blue Lodge since 1951, a dual member of the Grand Lodge of Colorado and the Grand Lodge of Texas, where he served as Worshipful Master of Uvalde Lodge #472 in 1982 and a dual member of Tranquility Lodge #2000.

Since 1957 he was also a member of the Consistory and since 1979 of the Shrine.

He had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star since 1952 and served as Worthy Patron in Colorado and Texas a total of seven times. He also served in the Job Daughter’s and Rainbow Girl organizations. He was an active member of the Uvalde Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 17 years and was a member of the Uvalde Chamber of Commerce Road Runners.

Charles had been a member of the Episcopal Church since 1930.

He was one of the founders of St. Philip’s and St. James Episcopal Church in Denver, Colorado.

He served as a member of the Episcopal Committee, Episcopal Administrator, member of the first Church Council, and has been a lay reader since 1955, a chalice bearer since 1957, a junior administrator, and a Eucharistic minister from 1998 to 2016 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Uvalde, Texas.

He also regularly attended Uvalde Methodist Church with his wife, Cleo Lemon.

Charles was preceded in death by: his parents, Lloyd and Carrie Lemon; his wife, Jacqueline Smith Lemon; his sister, Barbara Lemon Reidell; his daughter, Nora Lemon Bransom; his grandchildren, Erin Lemon Krueger and Eric Lemon.

Charles is survived by his wife, Cleo Norton Lemon, Uvalde, Texas; his daughter, Molly Lemon Divine (Gary Baker) of Lake Oswego, Oregon; son, Philip Lemon (Mary), of Prescott Valley, Arizona. Grandchildren: Heather Kristensen (Matthew), Santa Rosa, California; Grant Ogden, Denver, Colorado; Jesse Thomas (Cecilia), Arlington, Texas; Corey Thomas, Arlington, Texas. He is survived by 10 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by: Diann Chaney Strout of Utopia, Texas; Bette Chaney Tucker (LeeVan) of Lago Vista, Texas; Dale Chaney of Greeley, Colorado; stepbrother James Leckenby of Parker, Colorado.

The funeral service will be held on July 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde, Texas, with burial to follow at Leakey Floral Cemetery.

The Reverend Michael Marsh of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church officiated. There was a reception at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church following the service at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, Uvalde, Texas and prior to the funeral service in Leakey, Texas.

If desired, memorials may be made in his name to Uvalde Memorial Hospital Hospice. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the loving care provided by all members of UMH Hospice who provided care during his final days.
