Wyoming’s Class ‘A’ Legion Baseball teams will enter the postseason with one District Tournament and one Best of Three series this weekend. The West District Tournament is in Green River from Friday through Sunday. The East has its new best-of-three series on Saturday and Sunday after the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds face off on Thursday.

The Powell Pioneers are the host team and are already in the state tournament field. That means only three other teams from the West District Tournament will advance to the state tournament.

The East will start a new best-of-three-game series instead of a bracket. With nine teams in the field, the No. 8 seed will receive the No. 9 seed in a one-game, winner-take-all format, and that winner will advance to face the No. 1 seed. Then it’s No. 2 versus No. 7, No. 3 receives No. 6 and No. 4 receives No. 5. There are still a few regular-season games left to determine the final seedings. The best-of-three series will take place at the higher-seeded sites.

Two wins in either format qualifies a team for the state tournament. The Wyoming Legion Baseball A State Tournament will be in Powell from July 27-31, 2024.

Final score: (S1) Evanston Bandits 10 (N4) Riverton Raiders 3 – A 6-run 2nd inning put the Outlaws ahead for good. Bauer had 2 hits and 3 RBI’s, while Oliver & Kaman each added 2 hits and 2 RBI’s for Evanston.

Final score: (N2) Powell Pioneers 25 (S3) Rawlins Bandits 0 – The Pioneers scored 12 runs in the 1st inning to take control. Queen hit 3 HRs and had 9 RBIs. Stenerson added 2 HRs and 4 RBIs. Powell had 15 extra-base hits.

Final score: (N3) Lovell Mustangs 2 (S2) Green River Knights 1 – The Mustangs scored 1 in the 1st and 4th inning and held off the Knights. Jackson and 2 relievers allowed 1 run on 2 hits with 9 Ks. Hedges had 1 hit & 1 RBI.

Final score: Powell Pioneers 13 Evanston Outlaws 3 – The Pioneers advance to the District title game thanks to 4 more HRs. Stenerson had 2 HRs (4 hits total) & 5 RBIs, plus Queen & Johnson homered. Powell capped it off with a 7-run 6th.

Final score: Cody Cubs 12 Lovell Mustangs 2 – The Cubs took the lead with a 3-run 3rd and added 6 more runs in the 5th. D. Phillips & Duke both hit HRs. Phillips had 3 hits & 5 RBIs, while Duke had 2 hits & 3 RBIs.

Final score: #2 Torrington Tigers 5 #7 Wheatland Lobos 3 (Game 1) – After trailing 3-2, the Tigers scored 2 in the 3rd to take the lead, then added another run in the 5th. Moorehouse had 2 hits and 1 RBI. Desmond added 1 hit and 2 RBI’s.

Final score: #2 Torrington Tigers 12 #7 Wheatland Lobos 2 (Game 2) – The Tigers took control with a 7-run 3rd inning and swept the series to qualify for state. Desmond had 2 hits and 4 RBI, while Moorehouse added 2 hits and 2 RBI. Torrington also benefited from 8 walks and 3 errors.

Final score: #6 Cheyenne Eagles 4 #3 Sheridan Jets 1 (Game 1) – In a 1-1 game, the Eagles scored 3 runs in the 4th for the difference. Hall and Nuland each had 2 hits.

Final score: #3 Sheridan jets 8 #6 Cheyenne Eagles 4 (Game 2) – Jets win to force a deciding Game 3 on Sunday. Sheridan scored 8 runs in the first 4 innings. Baures had 2 hits and 3 RBI’s. Araas & Switzenberg added 2 hits and 1 RBI for the Jets.
