Miami Hurricanes land top cornerback as UM’s 2025 recruiting momentum continues

Three days after losing a cornerback prospect, the Miami Hurricanes landed a big one Saturday when they received a non-binding commitment from four-star cornerback prospect Jaboree Antoine from Louisiana, who chose UM over LSU and FSU.

247 Sports lists Antoine as the No. 8 cornerback and No. 71 overall player in this class. On.3 ranks him as the No. 9 cornerback and No. 87 prospect.

His commitment comes about 72 hours after five-star cornerback DJ Pickett chose LSU over UM and Oregon.

Antoine, who attends Westlake High in Iberia, Louisiana, decommitted from LSU in June but was considered for re-engagement with the Tigers. On Friday, he informed UM that he would become a Hurricane.

“It really came down to a late decision,” Antoine said on social media and Saturday’s On.3 announcement show. “I just had a lot of questions that I wanted answered. (UM) was really unmatchable.”

He said the Canes are “getting a leader on and off the field. You’re getting a corner that can take over one side of the field, and we’re going to try to win a national title.”

Antoine — who visited UM twice, most recently on May 31 — said “everyone on the (UM) staff was excited” when he revealed his commitment. “I’m ready to get out there right now.”

Antoine played just five games last season due to a collarbone injury. In 2022, he made 32 tackles with 11 pass breakups and five interceptions. He also played quarterback in 2022, completing 105 of 186 pass attempts for 1,650 yards and 12 touchdown passes.

Antoine, who is 6-1 and 180 pounds, joins four-star prospect Chris Ewald Jr. and three-star Timothy Merritt as cornerback commits in UM’s 2025 class. Four-star prospect Amari Wallace, another UM commit, could play cornerback or safety.

Meanwhile, the Canes are still in the running for several other highly regarded defensemen:

▪ Four-star Miami Columbus safety Bryce Fitzgerald, who is expected to commit in mid-August. UF and FSU are also heavily in play.

▪ Booker T. Washington cornerback Ben Hanks Jr., who is rated the No. 10 cornerback and No. 81 player overall, is considering UM, FSU, UF and Louisville. On3.com has UF as the favorite.

▪ Louisiana-based three-star prospect Aiden Anding, who is ranked No. 38 among corners by 247 Sports. Texas, TCU, LSU and Arkansas are also in the mix.

One of UM’s targets on offense, Vernell Brown III, a four-star receiver from Orlando (Fla.) Jones in 2025, is expected to choose between UM, FSU, UF and Ohio State on Sunday.

The Canes now have 19 commitments for the Class of 2025, and 13 since June 1, mostly from four-star prospects. 247 Sports ranks UM’s class eighth in the nation.
