Crews make progress on Larch Creek and Lone Rock wildfires

CENTRAL OREGON (KPTV) – As wildfires continue to ravage the state, firefighters have made significant progress on both the Larch Creek fire in Gilliam County and the Lone Rock fire in Wasco County.

The Larch Creek Fire, which encompasses 18,286 acres, is now more than 80 percent contained, according to the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch. The fire, located 10 miles southwest of Dufur, started June 9. Authorities determined the fire was human-caused.

The Lone Rock Fire, located near Condon in southern Wasco County, is 40 percent contained and covers 83,922 acres. The fire started on June 13. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

A community meeting regarding the Lone Rock Fire will be held tonight at 6:00 PM in the gymnasium of Fossil Grade School (392 Main Street Fossil, OR).
