Best Virginia rolls past Brotherly Love 94-69 in TBT first round

PITTSBURGH — In the opening round of the TBT tournament, number 3 Best Virginia defeated number 6 Brotherly Love 94-69 on Saturday afternoon.

Best Virginia had a concerted effort to score against Brotherly Love as all 10 players checking in for Best Virginia scored. Wesley Harris (15), Marcus Keene (12), Esa Ahmad (12) and Taz Sherman (11) led the way for Best Virginia who scored in double figures.

Keene, a former Youngstown State and Central Michigan guard, made his debut for Best Virginia on Saturday. Keene played for Sideline Cancer in previous TBT tournaments. Keene finished with 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting.

Best Virginia cooled off in the second quarter after scoring 35 points in the first frame. WVU’s alumni team was outscored in the second quarter, but led by 15 points at halftime.

Former Mountaineer guard Teyvon Myers made a jump shot to give Best Virginia a 28-point lead in the second quarter. Brotherly Love slowly nibbled away at Best Virginia’s lead, but another run in the third quarter was capitalized by a dunk from Sagaba Konate.

With four minutes left, the game went to the Elam Ending. This is the rule TBT uses to end games and prevent late violations. The leading team’s points plus eight is the target score to end the game. The target score was set at 93 points. Jonathan Holton’s layup ended the game.

Best Virginia now awaits the winner between No. 2 Zoo Crew (Pitt) and No. 7 Million $ Worth of Game, who play Saturday night. Best Virginia and their future opponent play Monday night at 8 p.m. ET at the Petersen Events Center on TBT Live.

The TBT Championship will take place in Philadelphia with the final four teams, and will take place on August 2-4.

This is the first time since 2020 that Best Virginia will not host its own regional, which has been played in Charleston and Wheeling the past three summers. Pitt’s alumni team, The Zoo Crew, will have the honor of hosting their regional this week at the Petersen Events Center from July 20-24.

The basketball tournament features 64 teams and the winning team wins $1 million.
