Justice (?) for 4 Montana women; crippled deer man gets 21 years in prison

Warning: The subject matter concerns sexual abuse and assault, with disturbing details. Readers are advised to exercise caution.

Fathers and mothers, watch over your daughters. Sisters and cousins, support each other. There are monsters out here. And they walk among you.

Theo Summers Buffalo Bulltail was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the abuse and torture of four women on the Crow and Northern Cheyenne reservations, along with illegal possession of a firearm. The sentence came July 17 after he pleaded guilty in February.

Is 21 years enough justice, considering the damage he has caused?

In the press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, all of the women are referred to as “Jane Doe.” Below is a summary of his abuses, not in chronological order.

Lady #1

April 2022, Buffalo Bulltail beat her with his hands and an axe, breaking her foot and nose, and then tortured her for days in a Lame Deer home. She eventually escaped and was helped by a truck driver.

Lady #2

On the Crow Reservation, Bulltail drove her to the remote countryside, where he strangled her and threatened to kill her. When she refused to give him the car keys in March 2022, he punched her twice, breaking her nose.

Lady #3

Pryor MT, July 2022. Bulltail attacked her with a large knife, cutting her in the arm.

Lady #4

July 2022, he drove this woman to Lodge Grass with the verbally admitted intent to assault her. Bulltail forced her to undress, then pushed her out of the car, then pulled her back in by her hair. He may have wanted to drive her somewhere else, but the car was stuck in the mud. Lady #4 got dressed and fled.

The next day Bulltail found her, took her to another house and attacked her, she ran from the house at the first opportunity.

Firearms charges

With a rap sheet of five felonies, Mr. Theo ran from a traffic stop in January 2022; officers caught him and arrested him. They found a sawed-off shotgun, .40 caliber ammunition, and meth.

Justice done?

I suspect that Mr. Theo Summers Buffalo Bulltail pleaded guilty to all of these charges to get a lesser sentence. He knew the job was done and a jury conviction would mean a lot more time.

Next question: Will this piece of work even stay behind bars for the full 21 years?
