Colorado jobless claims rose last week

The number of jobless claims in Colorado rose last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday.

New claims for unemployment benefits, a measure of layoffs, rose to 3,004 in the week through July 13, from 2,156 the week before, the Labor Department said.

U.S. jobless claims rose to 243,000 last week, up 20,000 from the previous week’s 223,000 claims, after seasonal adjustment.

South Carolina saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 91.1%. North Dakota, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage decrease in new claims, with claims decreasing 58.3%.
