Celtic FC Foundation Supports Food Pandemic in Washington DC

As Celtic prepare for the first match of their US pre-season tour against DC United, the Celtic FC Foundation are pleased to confirm that donations will be made to three different charities, one in each location on the US tour, to help provide food to the most vulnerable in each location.

The first donation will be made to SOME (So Others Might Eat), an organization based in Washington DC since 1970 that has been a light for those most in need in the US capital.

Their aim is to break the vicious cycle of poverty and homelessness by providing various support services.

A $10,000 donation has been made to SOME, which will allow the youth program to significantly expand its capacity to provide healthy meals to the vulnerable children it serves, giving them the nutrition they need to grow and learn.

Celtic’s new goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo and club ambassador Roy Aitken were joined by the foundation’s chief executive Tony Hamilton when they visited SOME on Friday afternoon to present the donation.

Tony Hamilton said: “We are delighted to be here at SOME and to be making this contribution to their incredible work.

“Celtic Football Club is a global brand and the Foundation is also committed to supporting those most in need in our communities around the world.

“We receive tremendous support for the work of the Celtic FC Foundation in North America and it is right that we try to help in this way.

“SOME’s goals and ethos align closely with those of the Foundation and the reasons Celtic exists in the first place, to put food on the table for those who truly need it. We hope this donation will help SOME fight poverty in DC”

As part of the US tour, Celtic FC Foundation will host a charity dinner at the final tour venue, Notre Dame, on Friday 26 July.
