NDGF offers opportunities for outdoor learning

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Game and Fish Department will welcome thousands of visitors to its free Conservation and Outdoors Skills Park during the state fair in Minot, which begins July 19 and runs through July 27.

In a press release, the department said visitors will be treated to a variety of activities, exhibits and helpful information as the park is open daily from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Trails for hunting, fishing, trapping and archery are major attractions where interested children and adults can participate in any outdoor activity.

In addition to hands-on outdoor learning opportunities, the area offers a live fish exhibit, a fur-bearing animal exhibit, and native prairie plantings. An interpretive center staffed by the Game and Fish Department is located in the Conservation and Outdoors Skills Park on the north side of the fairgrounds, near the State Fair Center.

Game and Fish offers ANS reminder

BISMARCK – Water recreationists must do their part to prevent the spread of nuisance aquatic animals in North Dakota, the Game and Fish Department said in a reminder.

While efforts to stop the transportation of ANS have been largely successful, challenges remain as not all fishermen, boaters and other water enthusiasts adhere to the “Clean, Drain, Dry” message, the department said in a press release.

North Dakota waters are relatively free of nuisance aquatic species. Aside from common carp, most species—zebra mussels, waterweed, flowering rush, curled waterweed, and three species of invasive carp—are found only in a handful of waters in the state.

To keep the state’s waters ANS-free, Game and Fish reminds all water users to clean, drain and dry all equipment after each use.

Always:

  • Clean the vessel or equipment and remove all plants and animals before leaving the recreation area.
  • Drain all water from the vessel and equipment before leaving designated access points. Failure to drain water can be extremely dangerous and may result in negligent transportation of water to other locations.
  • Allow all equipment to dry completely before reusing.
