Sundance Institute explores new locations for iconic film festival

The Sundance Institute has announced six finalists in its search for a new host venue for the influential film festival. After four decades in Park City, Utah, they are considering alternatives across the country for festivals that begin in 2027, when their current contract expires.

The selected cities—Atlanta, Cincinnati, Boulder, Louisville, Salt Lake City and Santa Fe—were chosen after a competitive proposal phase that began in May. These finalists are judged on infrastructure, accessibility, locations and alignment with Sundance values.

“As we carefully consider this important decision for our festival, we believe these six finalists offer us the best opportunity to not only secure a sustainable future for our festival, but also to build on its legacy as we continue to support the next generation of storytellers and showcase bold new works of art,” said Sundance Institute Chairman Ebs Burnough and Acting CEO Amanda Kelso. A final decision is expected in early 2025, with visits to each city in the coming weeks.
