MARGARET “PEGGY MATHEWS | News, Sports, Jobs


Margaret A. “Peggy” Mathews, 91, of Mingo Junction, Ohio passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at The Laurels of Steubenville. She was born on September 23, 1932, the daughter of the late William & Mary Ann Elson Dunlap. Peg was preceded in death by her husband Ed; son Ronnie “Oz”; and sister and brother-in-law Verna & Johnny Call.

After retiring from the Trinity East cafeteria, she enjoyed bus rides with her friends, the Mingo Pool senior swim, and was known for her delicious homemade noodle and nut rolls.

Peg is survived by her daughter Janet (Keith) Duncan; her son Tom Mathews (Kelly Enos); her three grandchildren Renee Wurstner, Brian (Dena) Duncan and Cory Mathews; her four great-grandchildren Cade Wurstner, Dakota Scarbury, Pearl Duncan and Oz Duncan; her nephews Rick (Sherry) Call, Bob (Christina) Call and her beloved “extended family” the Duncan, Grinch and Figel families.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Jason Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

A very special thank you to Dr. John Figel for the many years he spent caring for Peg, visiting her and always giving her the best possible care.
