A 17-year-old was arrested Saturday and accused of stealing a Chevy Tahoe belonging to former President Donald Trump’s campaign team. The incident occurred ahead of the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump arrived Sunday, just a day after the vehicle was stolen.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County Criminal Court, the incident began around 4 a.m. in front of the Pfister Hotel. The complaint accuses the teen of operating a motor vehicle without permission and committing a misdemeanor, damaging property.

The complaint alleges that the teen broke into a valet lockbox at the Pfister Hotel on East Wisconsin Avenue. He then drove the car through the parking gate at the Mason Street exit, NewsNation reported. A security guard reported that he tried to open the vehicle’s door handle as the teen drove by, but it was locked.

Police tracked the vehicle using GPS to a Walmart at 6300 Brown Deer Road, where they arrested the teen inside the store. Officers found the Tahoe key and several other keys in his possession.

The teen later claimed he was looking for an outlet to charge his phone at the Pfister Hotel when he saw a locked cabinet and broke it open out of curiosity.

He was being held on $2,000 bail at the Milwaukee County Jail, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s website. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 23.
