Gunman flew drones over scene for hours before shooting Trump: report

The gunman who attempted to shoot former US President Donald Trump at the Pennsylvania rally reportedly flew drones over the site where Trump was delivering his speech, the Wall Street Journal reported. The newly emerged details suggest that 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks flew the drone on a pre-programmed flight path to scout the area hours before the former president’s speech.

The report said the drone circled the venue multiple times as Crooks observed the area and surveyed the event location. The planned route indicates that Thomas Matthew Crooks likely operated the drone multiple times to gather information about the event location. Crooks later went to a rooftop just 430 feet away from where the Republican presidential candidate, 78, was speaking and fired at least six shots at the former president.

Crooks began researching the rally site shortly after the Trump campaign announced the July 3 event and registered for it on July 7. A few days later, he visited the agricultural expo grounds to investigate further.

Crooks then returned with two homemade bombs, designed to be detonated remotely using receivers similar to those found in fireworks. Investigators discovered the crude explosives in Crooks’ car parked at the property, along with a ballistic vest containing three 30-round magazines, indicating he intended to cause even more damage, the WSJ report noted.

This revelation also comes as other chilling information about the would-be assassin’s sinister attempt is emerging. It was recently reported that Thomas Crooks had made a chilling post on social media, downloaded images of both Donald Trump and President Biden to his phone, and searched the dates of the Democratic National Convention and Trump’s Pennsylvania rally, making his sinister intentions clear before the assassination attempt.

According to multiple media reports, the person who climbed onto a roof and opened fire at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania had posted a threatening message on the gaming platform Steam, saying: “July 13th is my premiere, watch it unfold.”

Investigators have so far examined the suspect’s technological devices, including cellphones and a laptop, and discovered this message. Upon examining the laptop, they found searches conducted in July on topics including Trump, Biden, the DNC convention schedule, and the July 13 Trump rally.

The US’s top security officials recently passed this information on to senators. Senators reportedly told the media that none of those interviewed reported hearing the suspect discuss politics.

The suspect had two cell phones in his possession. The primary phone was found at the crime scene, along with a remote control. A second cell phone, found at the suspect’s home, contained only 27 contacts. The FBI is currently in the process of locating and interviewing these individuals.

According to multiple media reports, Crooks is said to have visited a shooting range, Home Depot and a gun store, where he purchased 50 rounds of ammunition and a five-foot ladder before carrying out the attack.

Meanwhile, CNN reported that investigating authorities have put together an initial portrait of the potential killer, who is believed to be an intelligent loner with an interest in weapons who, strangely enough, is not involved in politics.
